Obituary for Barbara Anne Cowan

Barbara Anne Cowan
Barb passed away peacefully at the age of 71 on March 3, 2018 at St. Paul’s hospital in Saskatoon. Barb was born on October 15, 1946 in Prince Albert where she lived her entire life. She graduated from the Kinsmen school at the age of 18 and went onto work at Kin Enterprise for 45 years. In 2013 Barb received a plaque for her dedication and many years of service. After her retirement she attended the Sage program. Barb made many lifelong friendships with the staff and her co-workers while being part of Kin Enterprise and the Sage program.

The family will be forever grateful for the amazing love Barb received while in the care of Andrea Skiftun, Cathy Ferguson, Maryanne and Ashlee Schmidt and the Herb Bassett Home.

In Barb’s younger years, she loved bowling, dancing, country music, singing, family gatherings, vacationing at Las Vegas, Candle Lake, Fort St. John and Winfield. Spending time with her sisters and their families was her happiest moments. Barb had a very special bond with her siblings. They always had a way of making her feel so special. In return Barb had such unconditional love for all of them.

Barb was always the most appreciative person and was always the first one to say "Thank you". She loved any celebration but especially her own birthday party. Barb will always be remembered for her smile, laughter, sense of humour and the love she had for all of her family and friends. She loved to tease people and loved when people to teased her back. She was often heard saying “Oh you” with a big smile when someone would tease her. Barb loved having her hair done and nails painted and would proudly show them off to anyone by displaying her hands out for people to have a look. Even in her time at St. Paul’s hospital she made sure to show all the nurses her red painted nails.

Over the year’s Barb had many nicknames. Often people greeting her by Barbie, Barbie Doll, BB or Bubba. There certainly was not a place Barb could go where she did not know someone. Everyone seemed to know Barb. She will be forever missed by all whose lives she touched.

Barb is survived by her brother: Ken Cowan; sisters: Shirley MacDonald, Elsie Rocheleau, Eileen Jones, Linda (Ron) Forrest and Rita Bergmann; as well as numerous niece and nephews, great niece and nephews, and great-great niece and nephews.

Barb was predeceased by her parents: Albert and Johanna Cowan; sister: Gerry Carter; brother- in-laws: Ken MacDonald, Ken Rocheleau, and Larry Jones; Sister- in- law: Joyce Cowan; nephews: Darrin Lussier and Bradley Rocheleau.

A celebration of life for Barb will be held on June 30, 2018 - 11AM, at MacKenzie Chapel, Prince Albert, SK. We will all miss you dearly Barb. Until we meet again.
